The nation in blue

This post a’int about cricket or my comments about it. With my limited knowledge in the domain, I know I would only meet derision if I venture to do so. This is rather going to be something I keenly observed in last year’s world cup and very much relates to how connected we are to the game. India loves cricket, and that, dear lord, I would say is an understatement.

Okay, so if I ask you to reminisce the days of the cup, what thoughts cross your mind apart from India’s crowning moment? Well candidly I am sure you would also remember some other incidents too while watching the matches :P. What are those? Well read on..

Watching matches are times when you realize your secret powers. How one casual gesture of yours in front of the TV can lead to sixers. And you would be repeatedly staging the same hoping that the boundaries don’t dry out. This gesture can be as small as flipping the channel, a finger crossed or probably a little painful ones like standing on one leg and more of the like. You also realize your capacity of how to postpone answering nature’s calls, strange powers these are :P

Moreover you recognise how a certain poor guy of your family is unlucky for the team if his entrance caused a flurry of falling wickets; and you show no courtesy in showing him the door. In most cases, he would oblige as its for the sake of his country’s win too.

It might be hard to speculate to whom the big win should be attributed to, whether it was due to the people who forbade themselves from visiting loos, or those who stayed statued during the matches, or those who were organizing rituals and poojas for the gods, or those who politely humbled to the allegations of being unlucky and did not watch or even linger near the TV during the matches, or the eleven guys who battled it out on the field. But whatever or whoever it was, it was a win for the billion Indians who all strove for one goal together :D

It rarely happens you are yearning for something so badly that isn’t directly related to you. And on top of that there are a billion others who are singing the same tune as yours. But cricket, :) , can do all miracles for India. What revolution eleven men in blue can achieve, a hundred heads from the parliament can only hope for.
