The muslin cloth

At 10 minutes before midnight, the confetti spread with an explosion and instantly blanketed the sky in a golden white slush. The celebration had already been kicked off even before the clock could strike the first hour of the New Year. Ravi glanced out of his hotel room and saw people drinking and dancing on loud music in the garden downstrairs, where Mr.Mehrotra, the business tycoon, had thrown a lavish party.  The festivities around him reminded him of his home. He spent his childhood with his younger sister Meenu and mother in a small village near the coast. His mother would be mostly ill and so he had to leave school and work as a delivery boy to support the house. He was known to always reach on time and execute each assignment so well that several grocery and meat shops employed him. He used to bring home 400 each month from the shops and a handful of more money if some customers were generous enough to give a tip after delivery. Every morning his day started with cle...

Just another travel excerpt :P

I am amongst those people who don’t like air travel much but yet happen to use it a lot. Having lived my college about100kms away from home, I haven’t really traveled a lot of long distance journeys coz I never needed to. And now when I do need such journeys, time crunch stops me from resorting to terrestrial transports and SpiceJet’s direct flights are my only saviors.. My favorite mode is still rail.. the clickety clack sound, the beautiful views, especially if you are travelling in southern India(I love the green terrains), the slow rocking.. for me this all surpasses the convenience that air travel boasts of. Flying definitely has its own benefits; for guys who might want to relish the pampering by young beautiful girls, they should definitely weigh this option over others but oughta be careful while choosing your airlines too :P. Still nothing beats having a cup of garam chai in a whistling train going though valleys and tunnels, than having a platter in the air gazing at a ...

Apple of the Is

After seeing the immense public outburst and reaction over Steve's death, there's no second thought that the man had a great following even in countries like India. Of course, most of the people would not have owned/used an Apple product here, but the reaction comes from the magic that his ideas have woven that inspired millions of people all over the world. According to Wozniak's autobiography, iWoz , Jobs had the idea to sell the computer as a fully assembled PCB . Wozniak, at first skeptical, was later convinced by Jobs that even if they were not successful they could at least say to their grandkids they had had their own company! [Souce wiki :D] It is such ideas that create revolutions, that would leave a mark on many generations to come.. I had attended a concert by Jagjit ji earier this year and I am a big fan of the charm that his voice and ghazals conjure.. A maestro, the baritone marked an era of exquisite ghazal singing..  N Ahh, Dennis Ritchie, I would...

When The “Human” shall Rise out of the Man . . . . .

Hatred, virulence, envy and greed, part and parcel of his life, his own subsistence in peril amidst the carnage he has thrived. Emblematic of a breathing fender, for money is the elixir for him, his heart is just a cauterized appendage, invigorating the glutton within. The society he dwells in, finely laced by caste and creed; Even its helm is in callous hands, guided by avarice and sleaze. But behold! The story doesn’t end here… Look at the young one who just put in the world his first step, Is the little beating heart aware of the hatred yet? Just kindle the humanity in him, let the love rise.. For he shall be the soother, the candle in the dark nights. Even when man may appear averting on the outside, but a heart still dwells in him. He   may have stopped listening to its beats;   but, yes! the Human twirls within.

A beautiful era, an integral part

I was looking through some files on my old laptop when I came across this piece.. its actually a poem written in April last yr when we were at the verge of leaving collg ( infact as most people know, I have not been into poem writing much, but I dont know what was going through my mind when I penned this one) It is not very good as a literary piece, but happens to be something really special to my heart. And seeing that its nearly 1 year since this was written, I decided to post this to my blog. A lot of things have changed in the past 1 year since we left Allahabad, and I just soo much wish those days can come back.....  I also wish I could tag all my gang here, but blogger apparently doesnt give that option yet as fb does :) Here it goes... " Through frailties, through life’s thick n thin You all stayed by my side as an angel akin. When every miniscule of joy got quadrupled when together we laughed, When every shred of tear ebbed wit...

The lakeside

Image
She walked on the cold vapid soil while thoughts continued to race through her mind. The trees, the soft cool breeze and the lake: everything was just the same as it used to be 2 years back when she was here; all except for her feelings. She remembered how buoyant she was as she made her way through the sea of staring faces down the aisle, her happiness rising as she strode each step towards her groom, the sparkle in his eyes, the assuring smile on his face. Ahh, grief struck her as she thought about that day, the day of her marriage when at this very spot she had taken vows with Mike of being together and how those got broken in just two years. Though it had just been a small time but seemed ages have past since that day, as many things had happened in the span destroying their relation that she couldn’t even sense when that eternal love faded away. She failed to comprehend if those were misunderstandings, mistakes or just a wrong decision, but she knew only one thing that tomorro...

Random: Musings from Harry Potter to Diwali

Image
There is one thing that my last post made me realize.. I had written my last post in a jiffy, not caring much about what thoughts went in or how the sentences were framed or even were they framed at all or not :P, but quite surprisingly it proved to be one of the most popular posts on the blog that invited the most number of comments :) :). So I have decided to again walk the same lane of chalking out a random post, and see if the commenters also follow suit or not :D A few days back while googling, found that its R.L.Stevenson’s birthday. I definitely owe the guy because Treasure Island happens to be one of the first novels I have read, I also remember reading a Hindi version of the same that was titled ‘Khajane Ki Khoj’.  Speaking of Hindi versions, there are times when you come across really funny translations of English to Hindi, be it the name Dum-Pishach for Dementors(Harry Potter contagion is on after all :D) or think about the uncountable instances that you cou...
